This Blog is our Blog. This Blog is for anyone who has, knows or cares about our children going off to war. If you have someone there (Skin in the Game) then you need to let others know your feelings. I hope to hear from others and how they feel weather you support the war are anti war or just plain want to put your 2 cents in.
Update 12/2/07
Jesse has arrived in Baghdad. He is at Camp Victory, said it's a huge base pretty much protected from mortar attacks (which are rare). He is only one of about 50 Marines at the base his boss is an Aussie Major and they call him Sarge. Two things he don't like right from the getgo. He was able to get hooked up with about 10 square feet inside a doublewide trailer. At least he's not sleeping in a leaky tent in the rain.
Update 12/22/07
Got a few e-mails. Things seem to be going fine he is still in Camp Victory but said they are going somplace where they will have to be careful. Erica and the baby went to stay with her Mom over Christmas. Thats a good thing! I just got Jess' address and will be sending him a book about the History of our favorite losers...Da Bears..LOL..

Welcome to the blogosphere. I have just started a similar blog called The One Percenters at www.theonepercenters.blogspot.com.
My son has just returned from 15 months in Iraq, most of which was downtown Baghdad. He is home on a three-day pass and heads back to Ft. Bragg today.
Another blog of note: www.infantrydad.blogspot.com. His son is due home on R&R in two days. Army, not Marines, but we are there with you and definitely have had and still have "skin in the game."
Thanks great to hear from you. i hope to get alot of comments and ideas on how to cope.
well hi, and welcome to the world of blogging. my son was in Iraq in 03-04, but is now out of the Army. my husband is Active Army, just got back from the Litterbox in July. You don't say if this is his first deployment, but that doesn't really matter, it's scary whether it's the first or second (or third...)
We're here if you need us. We have hints for you, recipes for cookies that don't melt but are still chocolate, shipping advice... and a shoulder to scream on.
LAW
Thanks LAW I have seen your posts on "Standing By". This is Jesse's first deployment. It's freaking me out but I am not going to show it to him when he is here next week. I guess its a guy thing. We collect and send things to the guys & gals at work every few months. I will send him something personal for Christmas.
then you will need to mail it soon! Priority flat rate boxes are the best. If you go to the post office at usps.gov, they have a Military pak that they deliver for free, with those lovely customs forms...
LAW
Wiseguy,
We have a small but growing support network here in Jacksonville...both Army and Marines. A number of our sons have just come home and a number are heading over. One of things we have been doing is sending Starbucks coffee to anyone who wants it. One of our Mom's has organized the donations and it has been a big success. I've got two that I have been sending to that I have found through the blogosphere...but both sons are coming home for leave. Once he gets settled, if he is interested, we will put him on the roster.
And LAW is right. You are not alone in this.
Thanks Airbornedad
I will ask Jesse when I see him on Sunday. He has to check in at McDill on Monday. I am hoping to spend some time with him next week.
Caught your post on Standing By. Hang in there, wiseguy.
Thanks AirborneDad
I'm feeling much better about things today. got e-mail from Jesse all is well so far TG.
Camp Victory is not a bad place to be even with an Aussie major. Hope he gets to stay there.
Hi Guy,
So it's freaking you out huh?
I don't think it freaks me out?
I get mad as hell sometimes.
I write letters to politicians.
I have been depressed since day one.
I guess I just try to put it out of my mind for the most part.
All we can do is hope that it turns out alright.
And deal with it if it doesn't.
Stop bye anytime, email me whenever.
I'm always happy to listen and talk.
